New platform makes over 2m images from Iconic Images’ vast archives available for licensing
London, UK – 1 September, 2020: Iconic Images, which represents a number of the world’s most prestigious photographers, has announced the launch of a new online licensing platform.
Iconic Licensing allows millions of images to be easily searched and licensed, and brings together works from some of the most celebrated photographers of modern times, including Terry O’Neill, Norman Parkinson and Ted Williams.
While many of these images have themselves achieved iconic status, the collection also features many further photographs that have never been publicly seen before, including a broad selection of contact sheets and alternate shots.
The collection carries images of some of the world’s most recognizable faces from the past 80 years. These span the breadth of the music, film and entertainment industries, with the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix joined by Harrison Ford, Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn. Iconic political figures such as Martin Luther King and President Barack Obama, also feature throughout the collection, as do images of royal figures from across the world.
The new platform makes use of SmartFrame’s technology for the presentation, protection and embedding of images. Among other things, this allows licensees to zoom progressively further into images so that image details can be finely scrutinized, together with the the option of full-screen views at the tap of a button for optimal image display.
Furthermore, SmartFrame’s download- and screenshot-protection technologies enforce the licensing system on offer and prevent unauthorized image use. This in turn helps to preserve revenues and ensure the artist’s copyright is fully adhered to.
“With a fresh Iconic Licensing platform, a streamlined user experience can be delivered from initial idea through to completion,” notes Ellie Brown, Director of Editorial Licensing at Iconic Images. “Alongside a strong team of industry experts and millions of images in the archives, the confidence is high in the ability to guarantee a bespoke service for any licensing project.”
“This is a revolutionary new way for editors to view millions of negatives, which, before now, have been hidden away in archives. Our aim is to open up the archives and legacies and allow people to explore brilliant images from the last 80 years of photography,” said Robin Morgan, CEO of Iconic Images.
