A home site is a website that you administer. It is here where you will typically upload your SmartFrames.

You can set a site to be your home site in Account settings. Multiple home sites are also permitted.

Once you define your home site, you’ll be able to filter the results in Insights to show or hide the data coming from your home site. Additionally, in the Insights Embed Report, a home icon will be displayed next to all SmartFrames from this site.

All embedded SmartFrames fall into one of two categories: onsite embeds and offsite embeds. So what is the difference?

On-site embeds

An onsite embed is any SmartFrame that has been embedded on your home site. This is the domain you have specified in your account as being your own, such as your personal website or blog, or a business website. Our home site, for example, is smartframe.io.

Offsite embeds

An offsite embed is any SmartFrame that has been embedded away from your home site. This will usually be a SmartFrame that someone else has embedded on their website or blog by copying the embed code within your SmartFrame, although any SmartFrame that you yourself have embedded somewhere other than on your home site would also be classed as an offsite SmartFrame.

How do onsite and offsite SmartFrames differ from each other?

Onsite and offsite SmartFrames largely appear and function in the same way as each other, although there are differences.

The main difference is that onsite embeds display a Caption, whereas offsite embeds show both a Caption and Attribution.

Offsite embeds also show default SmartFrame styling at all times, whereas onsite embeds can be customized to the user’s preference. The table below shows these main differences.

Full-screen mode is available both in Onsite embeds and Offsite embeds.

Etc.

Ordinarily, the changes you make in the Admin Panel will take effect as soon as you save them. This happens in what we call a production environment.
It is, however, also possible to experiment with certain features and see what kind of effect they have without you needing to commit to them. This can be carried out in another type of environment called a sandbox.

What is a sandbox?

A sandbox is a copy of your production environment, albeit one with reduced functionality and storage. It is designed specifically for testing and development.
You can switch between this and the production environment at any time.

How do I access the sandbox environment?

If you would like access to a sandbox environment for your account, simply contact us and we will enable this.

How to switch between production and sandbox environments

To switch to the production environment from a sandbox environment, simply log out of your account and log back in again.

Please note that any changes you make in a sandbox environment that you wish to implement in your production environment will not automatically be carried over. You will need to make these same changes once again when you are logged in to your production environment.

The post Sandbox environment appeared first on SmartFrame.

It’s possible for SmartFrame images to be embedded on both your home site(s) and any other sites you administer, and on external sites by others.

The Attribution feature helps to retain your brand’s visibility and the content creator’s identity when your images are embedded away from your own sites.

This feature appears at the bottom of SmartFrame images embedded on these external sites, and it takes the place of the Caption whenever the viewer’s cursor is not inside the image itself. As soon as the viewer’s cursor enters the image, the Caption is displayed and the Attribution disappears.

How do I change these details?

The specific details shown here can be defined in the Attribution section, which is found on the left-hand-side panel in every Theme. You can populate this field with metadata you have specified, and you are able to add links to this if you require. Basic styling options are also available.

Do I need to use the Attribution feature?

The Attribution feature is optional. You can enable and disable it by selecting the slider next to ‘Add an Attribution’ on the Attribution page.

The post Attribution appeared first on SmartFrame.

The Embed button allows viewers of your SmartFrame images to quickly and easily embed these on their own website or blog.

When you enable this option, a small button will appear within your SmartFrame image and this will reveal an embed code when clicked. This code simply needs to be copied and pasted into a website’s HTML or text editor for the image to be successfully embedded.

This button may appear on its own or within the Share button options, depending on how you have your Theme configured. By enabling it, this change will be applicable to all SmartFrame images that use this particular Theme.

How to add an Embed button to your SmartFrame images

The Embed option should be enabled for SmartFrame images by default. If it is not, please follow the instructions below.

Click on Themes in the Admin Panel.

Find the Theme for which you would like to enable this control.

Select Edit before selecting the Call to action option within the left-hand-side menu.

Enable this control by clicking on the slider next to Add a call-to-action button so that it turns blue (assuming this is not already blue). The Embed button should now be selected.

To preview how this will appear inside a SmartFrame image, click on the Preview button at the bottom of the page. This will open a full preview of the Theme, even before you save any changes made. Once you’re happy with the results, you can save the changes by clicking on the Save button.

Regardless of where such a SmartFrame is embedded, you will still be able to see and track this in the Insights panel. You’ll also be able to change its Theme or block it from domains of your choosing.

Because SmartFrames are rendered using <canvas>, they are not readable by search engines.

This allows for a small customized thumbnail – that is, a small JPEG generated from the original image – to be served in its place in image search results.

You can adjust the maximum size of the thumbnail that will appear in image search results. There are three thumbnail widths to choose from: Small (200px), Medium (400px) and Large (600px).

<smart-frame image-id="search_engines_1638892689272"
theme="help-center-no-features" class="sf-round-corner-20 sf-box-shadow"></smart-frame>

You can also choose whether to have a watermark over the thumbnail to further protect your image.

These settings are global and apply to all your embeds. This also means that if you disable search engine indexing, none of your SmartFrames will be indexed or visible in image search results.

Delay warning

The changes you make on the Search engine page within the Control section of the Admin Panel will not be immediately visible in the search engine results. Exactly how long this takes depends on when the page with the embedded SmartFrame is indexed by the search engines. For this reason, it’s possible that some SmartFrame embeds will have these settings updated sooner than others.

You can search your images using metadata. In the Images panel, start typing the metadata in the search field above your images; the results will be instantly filtered to show only those that contain the typed keywords or phrases in any of their meta tags.

If you need more specific search options, select Advanced search from the menu below the search field. This will open a dialog box that contains multiple metadata filters.

You can add as many filters as you need. Once you click Apply you’ll see only the images that match your criteria.

Filters

You can filter your images by their upload date by clicking on the Show filters button next to the search field and selecting the appropriate filters.

The post Searching and filtering your images appeared first on SmartFrame.

Because SmartFrame images are rendered using <canvas>, they are not readable by social networks.

This allows for a small customized thumbnail – that is, a small JPEG generated from the original image – to be served in its place when sharing a SmartFrame on a social network. You can also export some data along with the thumbnail, and this serves as an image description alongside the image.

You can adjust these settings in the Control section of the Admin Panel. The exact settings available to you depend on the social platform on which you’re posting the image, although these settings are global and will apply to all your embeds.

How do I share SmartFrame images on social media?

The easiest way to share SmartFrame images on any social platform is to enable sharing in the Theme used by that SmartFrame. Once you’ve done this, click on the Share button that appears on the SmartFrame, which will bring up sharing icons for different social networks.

If you don’t want to do this, but you would still like to post your image on your social media profile, you can post a link to your Image page instead. The thumbnail will still be generated, as long as you haven’t disabled it.

Note: Keep in mind that while sharing can be disabled in some Themes and enabled in others, the format of social thumbnail remains the same for all SmartFrame images. This is defined in the Control section.

Furthermore, if you disable thumbnails for social media sites but still allow sharing on social media in Themes, only the URL of the page where the image is embedded will be shared.

Facebook

If the Facebook thumbnail is enabled, a SmartFrame image shared on Facebook will look similar to this preview:

You can adjust the post by:

editing the title and short description or message that will appear in the Facebook post – we recommend using metadata to ensure that content is unique for each image

adding a watermark to the thumbnail

selecting which page should open after clicking on the post. This can be either the page on which the image is embedded (recommended), the standalone Image page, or a custom web page (URL)

X

If the X thumbnail is enabled, a SmartFrame image shared on X will look similar to this preview:

Payment couldn’t be processed because of an invalid or expired payment method

An account user has violated the Terms and Conditions

If your account is suspended, you will immediately lose access to the main panels such as Images and Control.
