Because SmartFrames are rendered using <canvas>, they are not readable by search engines.

This allows for a small customized thumbnail – that is, a small JPEG generated from the original image – to be served in its place in image search results.

You can adjust the maximum size of the thumbnail that will appear in image search results. There are three thumbnail widths to choose from: Small (200px), Medium (400px) and Large (600px).

<smart-frame image-id="search_engines_1638892689272"
theme="help-center-no-features" class="sf-round-corner-20 sf-box-shadow"></smart-frame>

You can also choose whether to have a watermark over the thumbnail to further protect your image.

These settings are global and apply to all your embeds. This also means that if you disable search engine indexing, none of your SmartFrames will be indexed or visible in image search results.

Delay warning

The changes you make on the Search engine page within the Control section of the Admin Panel will not be immediately visible in the search engine results. Exactly how long this takes depends on when the page with the embedded SmartFrame is indexed by the search engines. For this reason, it’s possible that some SmartFrame embeds will have these settings updated sooner than others.

Because SmartFrame images are rendered using <canvas>, they are not readable by social networks.

This allows for a small customized thumbnail – that is, a small JPEG generated from the original image – to be served in its place when sharing a SmartFrame on a social network. You can also export some data along with the thumbnail, and this serves as an image description alongside the image.

You can adjust these settings in the Control section of the Admin Panel. The exact settings available to you depend on the social platform on which you’re posting the image, although these settings are global and will apply to all your embeds.

How do I share SmartFrame images on social media?

The easiest way to share SmartFrame images on any social platform is to enable sharing in the Theme used by that SmartFrame. Once you’ve done this, click on the Share button that appears on the SmartFrame, which will bring up sharing icons for different social networks.

If you don’t want to do this, but you would still like to post your image on your social media profile, you can post a link to your Image page instead. The thumbnail will still be generated, as long as you haven’t disabled it.

Note: Keep in mind that while sharing can be disabled in some Themes and enabled in others, the format of social thumbnail remains the same for all SmartFrame images. This is defined in the Control section.

Furthermore, if you disable thumbnails for social media sites but still allow sharing on social media in Themes, only the URL of the page where the image is embedded will be shared.

Facebook

If the Facebook thumbnail is enabled, a SmartFrame image shared on Facebook will look similar to this preview:

You can adjust the post by:

editing the title and short description or message that will appear in the Facebook post – we recommend using metadata to ensure that content is unique for each image

adding a watermark to the thumbnail

selecting which page should open after clicking on the post. This can be either the page on which the image is embedded (recommended), the standalone Image page, or a custom web page (URL)

X

If the X thumbnail is enabled, a SmartFrame image shared on X will look similar to this preview:

You can adjust the post by:

editing the title and short description or message that will appear in the tweet post – we recommend using metadata to ensure that content is unique for each image

adding a watermark to the thumbnail

selecting which page should open after clicking on the post. This can be either the page on which the image is embedded (recommended), the standalone Image page, or a custom web page (URL)

Pinterest

If the Pinterest thumbnail is enabled, a SmartFrame image shared on Pinterest will look similar to this preview:

You can adjust the post by:

editing the title and short description or message that will appear in the Pinterest pin – we recommend using metadata to ensure that content is unique for each image

adding a watermark to the thumbnail

selecting which page should open after clicking on the image. This can be either the page on which the image is embedded (recommended), the standalone Image page, or a custom web page (URL)

LinkedIn

If the LinkedIn thumbnail is enabled, a SmartFrame image shared on LinkedIn will look similar to this preview:

You can adjust the post by:

editing the title that will appear in the LinkedIn post – we recommend using metadata to ensure that content is unique for each image

You can see the pages on which your SmartFrame images are embedded in the Insights section of the Admin Panel.

Individual SmartFrame images and their URLs are shown in the SmartFrames section, while domains on which SmartFrame images are found can be seen in Domains.

It may be the case that you don’t want your SmartFrame images to be visible on certain domains – and you have complete control over this.

You can either block an entire domain from displaying your SmartFrame images by adding it to your exclusion list, or you can selectively block individual SmartFrame images from appearing where they may have been embedded.

How to add a domain to your exclusion list

Log in to your SmartFrame account

Head to the Control section of the Admin Panel

Click on the +Exclude domain button and enter the domain you would like to block

Click on Add to Exclusion list

Once you do this, any SmartFrame images on that domain will be removed and replaced by the following image:

<smartframe-embed customer-id="7d0b78d6f830c45ae5fcb6734143ff0d" image-id="HMNCNsb6FG23" theme="blank-help-center" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; aspect-ratio: 4400/2800; max-width: 4400px;"></smartframe-embed>

If you want to remove only one or two SmartFrame images from a certain domain, we recommend that you simply block that SmartFrame image instead.

Removing domains from the exclusion list

If you no longer want a domain to be excluded, simply remove it from the exclusion list by clicking on the Remove icon next to it.

If you need to remove a number of domains from the exclusion list, you may prefer to select these domains and click on the Delete button at the top of the exclusion list table.

Once a domain has been removed from the exclusion list, all SmartFrame images embedded on its pages will be visible.

Please keep in mind that any embeds that were previously blocked in Insights will remain blocked even after the domain has been removed from the exclusion list.

The post Excluding domains appeared first on SmartFrame.

The Direct link sharing option allows you to share a URL to one of your SmartFrame images.

You can obtain a Direct link to a specific SmartFrame image by clicking on the image of your choice in the Images panel, before clicking on the icon next to Direct link, which sits at the bottom of the Image information section.

<smartframe-embed customer-id="7d0b78d6f830c45ae5fcb6734143ff0d" image-id="HMNC5X6w6x2K" theme="blank-help-center" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; aspect-ratio: 4400/2800; max-width: 4400px;"></smartframe-embed>

If you want to further control how your SmartFrame images can be shared, you can choose whether such a link can be obtained from a SmartFrame image and shared by others. To change this setting, head to the Themes section of the Admin Panel, before selecting the Edit option within the Theme of your choice. Now just select the Sharing setting from the left-hand-side menu and check or uncheck the box next to Display link.

You can also control whether a click on the shared Direct link opens the page wherever the SmartFrame has been embedded – such as an article that contains a number of SmartFrames – or a standalone Image Page that has the SmartFrame image appearing on its own. The former is the default option.

To change any of these settings, head to the Control section of the Admin Panel, before scrolling down to Direct link.

The post Direct link appeared first on SmartFrame.
